Sprains and Strains: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

A Sprain or strain occurs when there’s stretching or tearing of a ligament. Depending on the location where it occurs and its severity, symptoms may differ. There can be swelling, bruising, pain, tenderness and the skin on the area feeling warm to the touch.

Depending on the severity of the Sprain, your doctor might suggest anti-inflammatory medications along with other treatments such as compression and elevation of the injured area. Strapping is also an effective treatment option for Sprains. Strapping can offer pain relief as well as support and facilitate normal movement, helping you recover faster. Ankle Strapping, knee strapping, shoulder strapping, wrist strapping and hamstring strapping can be used where needed to aid quick recovery. Rehabilitation to restore flexibility post healing is also a viable treatment.

Fractures: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

A Fracture occurs as a result of your bone breaking or cracking. Osteoporosis, brittle bone disease, bone tumours and cancers can put you at a higher risk for Fractures.

A Fracturecan be treated with a Cast or a splint. A Cast or a Split is used to secure and immobilise the bone, to ensure there is no movement so the bones can align and heal properly. In cases such as fracture of a finger or toe, a cast or splint may not be required. In such instances, wrapping the bone would suffice in keeping it immobilised. In rare cases where a cast won’t work, surgery may be necessary.
